How can I schedule services?
Easy! Once you’re onboarded, services can be booked via our app, website, phone or email. Once we chat, we’ll set up a friendly meet-and-greet to get to know you and your pet and walk you through our convenient scheduling options.
What is a Meet and Greet?
Our Meet & Greet is a friendly, no-pressure visit where we take the time to get to know you and your pup. We’ll discuss your dog’s routine, personality, and any special needs to ensure we provide the best possible care. This is also your chance to ask questions, review our services, and feel comfortable that your pet has found a forever friend in their new sitter or walker. By the end of the visit, we’ll have a personalized plan ready to make sure each visit is safe, happy, and stress-free.
Do you care for pets with special needs?
Absolutely. Senior pets, shy pets, pets with meds — we love them all. Just let us know what they need, and we’ll take care of it with patience and love.
What’s included in pet-sitting services?
Lots of love! Plus feeding, fresh water, walks or playtime, litter box or cleanup care, and medication if needed. We can also grab your mail, water plants, and help keep your home cozy while you're away. Pet sitting services include 3 home visits/walks daily (the last of which is a walk + slumber party).
How does pet transport work?
Think of it as a pet-only Uber — but with extra cuddles. We pick up your furry friend in our secure, climate-controlled vehicle and safely take them to the vet, groomer, daycare, or wherever they need to go. We offer both local and long distance transport.
What areas do you serve?
We proudly serve the entire Richmond metropolitan area Not sure if you’re in our range? Give us a shout — we’re friendly, we don’t bite!
Can I meet my walker or sitter beforehand?
Of course! We love meet-and-greets. It gives your pet a chance to sniff us out and make sure we’re friend-material.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Life happens! Cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment and there’s no fee. We do not issue refunds however your account will be issued a credit for an unrendered service(s)
Will my visit be canceled in bad weather?
Rain, snow, or a little wind won’t stop us! We still make visits in most weather conditions, and we’ll keep your pet safe, cozy, and happy. If there’s extreme weather — like dangerous storms or unsafe travel conditions — we may need to adjust the visit time or switch to an indoor play session. If anything changes, we’ll reach out right away so you’re always in the loop.
Do you need a key to my house?
Most of the time, yes! Having a key makes visits smooth and ensures we can get to your pet even if you’re not home, your schedule changes, or there’s an unexpected delay. We keep all keys safe, secure, and never labeled with identifying information — just the way we’d want our own handled.
But there are a few situations where we don’t need a key:
You use a lockbox:
If you prefer, you can place a key in a secure lockbox at your home. We’ll use the code you provide and return the key to the lockbox after each visit. You have a keyless entry system:
If your home has a keypad, smart lock, or garage code, we can use that instead of a physical key. Just share the code, and we’ll enter and lock up the same way you do.Someone is home:
If you (or another household member) are home during the service, we don’t need a key at all—you can simply let us in.
No matter which option you choose, we’ll make sure access is secure, quick, and stress-free for both you and your pet!
How can I be assured my keys are safe?
Your keys are treated like VIPs at Barks and Recreation! We store all client keys securely and label them in a way that never includes your name or address. Only authorized team members have access, and we handle everything with the same care we give your pets. Your home and your peace of mind are always protected.
Why do you need two copies of my key?
Great question! We ask for two copies so we always have a secure backup. One key stays with your primary walker or sitter, and the second stays safely stored as an emergency backup.
If a key gets misplaced, stuck in a lock, or your assigned caregiver has an unexpected emergency, we can still get to your pet on time. It’s all about keeping your pet’s routine smooth and stress-free!
What if I’m late getting home from my trip?
No worries at all — it happens! Just let us know as soon as you can, and we’ll make sure your pet is cared for until you get home. Whether that means an extra visit, another walk, or extending a sit, we’ve got your furry friend covered. Your pet’s comfort and safety always come first! For pet sitting clients we always send an email/text at our last scheduled visit to ensure you’ve arrived home safely. Feel free to respond to this email directly is you think you may be delayed.
Will my dog be allowed off leash?
For everyone’s safety, we keep all dogs on leash during walks — even the super well-trained ones. Staying leashed protects your pup from traffic, wildlife, sudden noises, and those mischievous squirrels who love to stir things up.
However, if you’d like your dog to enjoy some off-leash freedom in legally permissible areas, we can absolutely do that with your explicit consent and a signed liability/indemnification release. Your dog’s safety is our top priority, and we want to make sure we’re all on the same page.
And of course, if you have a secure, fenced yard, we’re more than happy to let your pup enjoy off-leash zoomies there too!
Does my pet need to be vaccinated to register?
We don’t require vaccinations just to create an account, but your pet does need to be up to date on core vaccines before we provide any in-person services like walking, sitting, or transport. This helps keep your pet, our team, and the other animals we encounter safe and healthy.
If your pet has a medical reason they can’t receive certain vaccines, just let us know — we’re happy to chat about options and work with your veterinarian’s recommendations.
